Is it possible to convert mid engine sand rail to a rear engine, how much work, and money would be involved ?

Would there be good reason for this... Mid engine is about best solution for traction and performance.... About only thing you would gain would be "wheelie" factor becasue of engine hanging out back as a counter balance....

But yes you MIGHT be able to do it... A lot will depend on what type suspension you have and if you have "flipped" ring gear in transaxle and you are willing to do some frame mods.... As for cost, you will not know that factor till project is complete... There is no way to estimate a price and stay withing that budget when doing this sort of mod...

Ive seen a few long midengine rails that the front tires would plow into a dune that was steep and loose. If you play at Kermit, Tx they don't do so hot out there.

do you have fab skills? if so you may spend very little money converting.

It all depends on if you can flip your own ring gear back, weld your own tabs, ect. You can sell the mid engine shifter for more than it will cost you in parts.

If you have to pay someone its going to cost you $500 minimum in labor.

I'm unsure of the condition of your rail, but you might be able to buy a standard frame kit & build it the way you want it, sell your car & buy another or trade your car for a rear engine car.
