the same lettering/numbering system is used on all Volkswagens from 1980 |
Pardon my analness 8-[ , but it's from 1981. The 1980 VW's still used 10-digit VINs. |
Please note my remark in my post: "Vanagon VIN decoding info below courtesy of Bus Depot:"
My interest in the quoted content was in relaying the significance of the letters in position 5 and position 9 of the VIN. I assumed, and we know what happens there, that all the relevant info from BD that I was quoting would be correct. Winking back at you. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic

I spoke with the yard operator, and he pulled the diesel Vanagon off of the crush pile - I will try to get by today to see what year it is, but if there are any folks in the Bay Area that are interested, contact the yard. PM me if you want more info. Again, it's a pretty complete Diesel Vanagon, with some body damage. I'm not around this weekend, but I may be able to help out with this later.
BTW, this is not an ad, just an effort to keep the survivors on the road! _________________ - James

Good deed done! Some people see a beat up old van and don’t know they are classic iron. _________________ Vanagon ’83 diesel AAZ w/Giles injection, 5spd 4.57R&P+TBD and a '78 diesel Rabbit |
