I'm seriously considering giving up my bus for a bug. Am I crazy or is this something others have thought about or DONE.

You're crazy.
1. Buses rule
2. Beetles drool
case closed. Might as well lock up the thread now, boys.
Jokes aside, do you care to expand on your reasoning? While both being incredibly popular and fun cars, nothing exceeds the iconic styling, functionality and form of the bus. Just my opinion. Why do you want a bug instead?
I'd never swap a bus for a bug. They're way more valuable. That and I hate folding up like a lawn chair to get into a car. Terrible on the back. _________________ -Tony

it depends why.
If it is a nice bus you will probably never find one that nice again. If it is so-so then you can always find another. You won't find a bug as convenient if you haul things around or go camping. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

It'd have to be a really unique or rare beetle IMO.
Why do most of the bug guys want buses, yet very few bus owners want a bug (and most of those only own non running buses)?
Try it, but if at all possible keep the bus, you'll be looking for another one soon if you don't. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Keep the bus and ADD a bug. I've been a VW bug guy since the 70's. I have two and I added the Bay bus last year. I enjoy having both. Some days' I feel like driving the bus, others I'll drive a bug.
Now, my GF hates it cause she can't park her car garage.. Oh well. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Only you know the answer .
Personally, I would never choose a bug over a bus. I know never say never. The bus is just too versatile. If I could only have one Vdub, it would be a bus; 2, two busses. Maybe a third car, a bug. If you are considering a bug for a commuter car, for economical purposes, well....
sometimes we have to make sacrifices. I don't like sleeping in a bug though |

I started with a bug and later got a bus. Two completely different driving experiences and rides. The bus at least gets you up there high enough to drive watching thru the SUV in front of you windshield. The bug needs greater distance following same SUV as all you get is back door and bumper in your face.
Bus brings more smiles but the bug is long with the family and the bus will go....when I find the right 914. _________________ my59: Well son, my grandfather died before I got to drive it, so does that answer your question?

If it's for a commuter, I drive a Type III. Way more fun to drive in traffic. And I feel bad beating on the bus. For an 'everything' car, I would keep the bus.
You should ask this on the beetle forums and see what happens

I started in Bugs. Finally got a Bus and get WAY more use out of it for camping. That said, I want a Beetle again but I'm not giving up the Bus for one. I just plan to add a Bug to the stable.

I was never that crazy about bugs. If I wanted a cool air-cooled vw as a car I would go for a thing or a notchback. I wanted a bus for its space utilization and to go camping and because it is a bus. I would vote bus any and every day over a bug. I don't see anything inherently that special about the bug. At least the bus has the cool appeal. _________________ Click to view image

I agree that buses have the cool factor but SO DO BUGS. My restored 69 convertible bug draws tons of attention/compliments/looks/stories and even people asking to sit in it and me take a picture of them with their phones.

Got two buses and a bug. Bug's a former show car, beautiful and shiny.
Sat all summer except for the End of the World Rod Run.
Try haulin' all yer band gear in the bug.
Did get my first wawa in a bug tho. 53 years ago. I'll keep her for sentimental reasons. She's 50 this year. _________________ '65 Beetle "Lil' Lulu"- Ruby Red

I was joking about the cool appeal. I think just about anything that is old these days has cool appeal. Even the Gremlin at the last car show I went to gathered a crowd around it. I secretly wished I had one because I think they are neat looking especially with the factory optional v8. _________________ Click to view image

I can't imagine why someone would want a bug over a bus. If you really must trade in for a smaller vehicle, how about a Type 3 or a VW Thing? Bugs are cool but they would be my fourth choice. Hmmm... fifth actually, forgot about the Ghia. _________________ 1974 Westfalia, automatic, dual-carb |

I drove bugs for many years, but have been almost exclusively a bus driver for the last 15 or so. Last spring I bought a bug from a friend of mine to clean up and re-sell. It was fun to drive, but felt remarkable claustrophobic.
I sold it in late summer, and went back to driving the bus.
If you can, own both. If you hvae to pick just one, keep the bus.
And yes, you're crazy. But aren't we all? _________________ nothing |
