Robbie and I are heading up to Palomar Mountain up by the observatory. But, we're not going to take the paved road. oh no way.
We plan on heading up Nate Harrison Grade. It's a 10ish mile un-managed road. I was reading on a Jeep forum that it's extremely mild, so stock VWs encouraged to come with. If it rains, it'll be a nice mud run. And I know we'll be there rain or shine, maybe.
Heading up Oct 31st, at some time in the day. We were discussing times, but I wasn't drunk so I don't remember what we planned on.
Alcohol is highly suggest, enjoy responsibly, in fact: this will be a non-kid-friendly trip.
Anyone wanna head up? Show me up on the dirt road _________________ Wash your hands

It looks like we'll be meeting at the Jilberto's Taco Shop parking lot the day of.

Pauma Valley, CA 92061
U.S.A.
The base and tip top of the road are "paved," but it is a 5,000 foot gain in elevation. Should be neat. _________________ Learn how your vintage VW works. And why it doesn't!

That's not too far. Yea, everyone is welcome |
Everyone and more. We'll be bringing imaginary friends if people keep making excuses like "my kids don't want to drink in the woods with strangers around a campfire when they could be getting free candy from strangers."
Also, it might be good to put the location/date somewhere visible. For example, in the title.

Well I'm too tired to post a recap right now, but here is some GoPro footage of the paved parts of the trip. Why, if we didn't have to stop and look for my lost GoPro and Brian's lost brakes, we would have had some sweet footage of the offered section too.
Link
In the video are prime examples of some double-clutch downshifting, firewood parking brakes, racing lines around curves, and an exquisite demonstration of how ball joint front suspension is great until you have to back over a curb.

I just saw a beardless Robbie, never knew there was such a thing.
Nice video, I felt like I was watching Benny Hill. Those poor eggs and beers in the back of Brian's SC. Who wants there eggs scrambled??? More pics! _________________ __________

im in the kombi and i am on my 9th engine and need some money.....
those brakes make me feel so much better about running first my front pads till they slipped out, then the rears till they slipped out (both pad sets got so thin on metal to metal) then me left rear caliper fell off, and i continued to drive my passat another 650 miles without it.....i feel so mucch better after seeing that caliper.
wish i lived near you guys....someday soon i hope _________________ Stuart Zickefoose
