I picked this up for a winter project. Runs and drives but need some sorting out. Dropped spindles, Disc brakes up front., straight axle with 68 bug tranny. 1600DP. Little rougher than excepted but it will work out ok. Here are some pics. My plan is drive it and work on it. Keep it running. I like the stance but didnt like the little tires. I think I going to install red9 coilovers for front. In back I put the wagon west adjustable spring plates. Rebuilt front end with new swing lever bushing and rebuilt steering box from Wolfgang. I like the patina but working on cleanning up some of it. I would like to redo the window frames and install new seals.

Thanks for the reply, i was starting get worried.
Here is the mighty 1600DP after putting the empi carbs, 009 dizzy, and the awesome A1 sidewinder.
My son home from college really enjoyed driving the single all week. Its not so perfect I didnt worry too much about it.
Planning on hooking up gas gauge this weekend. |

Absolutely love it, nice find. The stance is great and it appears to be pretty solid and cancer free. Single Cab's are my all time favorite air-cooled VW. I may be searching for one after I complete my current VW project, a '64 Bug. I should have bought one 10-years ago when prices were lower:) _________________ 1957 VW Oval Resto Mod |

I was inspired by Aussie 56 build and how he did his patina but, bummed he had an accident.
I have been hitting it hard with the steel wool and rubbing compound. Like the result for now.
I did the upper part of front and still need to do lower part. Surprising how much it cleanned up. The OG paint is underneath.
St, ll working on door, bed gates inner panels worked.
I did get the wiper motor installed and works good with WW 12v armature. |

Installed coil overs last night on the front and dial the ride height. The beam is stock so tires where rubbing on dogleg and so no more rubbing and still has a nice stance.

Getting it dialed in with the coil overs.
I like how tight door is to dog leg.

Few updates. Been drivng the truck the past few days and fun fun. I hooked one of the heater boxes and have some heat.
Installed the 12V armature for the wiper motor and now have on working wiper. I actually put it to use driving home from work in the rain. Worked pretty good.
I drove the truck to a vintage motorcycle show the other night and it was foggy coming home so, I thought need a a foglight. still need to wire up.
Update the whole wiper motor I also installled the Wolfgang safari wiper shaft.
Made this hole plug for the antena delete.

Not much to report. Smal stuff.
Made my own drink holder and junk collector holder, it can go on floor or seat. I like how it turned out and works.
I was wanting 3rd brake light but didnt want to cut or drill holes. So I installed these lic. plate light bolts and hooked up to brake lights.
This oil leak is concering me, I think it is the oil cooler seals leaking. Just keeping an eye on it and staritn collecting parts for a 2 liter.

Cool Single-Cab! I haven't seen it before locally (I'm in St Charles). Were you at the Benton Park or Unban Chestnut VW events?

Hey Bullibill,
I am in Fenton and I didnt have it ready in time for Urban Chestnut, but wanted to have it there.
I was going to PM and see if you could help me with my window seals and I would like to see your collection. I am going to pull them out when weathe gets bad for paint and new seals. Window rattles are getting old.
Any othe VW show this year? |

Nice truck! I really like the license plate bolt idea for third (and fourth) brake lights. Just curious - where did you find those? Might have to try that on my single cab as well. _________________ >>Looking for any and all Vic Williams, Peoria Illinois dealership items.<< |
