Oval owners have a hard enough time finding replacement because the PO hacked up the original to put in a new style stereo. Talking from personal experience. oh, dont do it... _________________ Wanted: 4 tab hood i good condition. Looking for a good price so if it needs a little work its ok. Let me know |

The hard part is the oval dash ashtray area is twice as wide (has a gradual curve) as the later '58 and newer bugs (more boxy box). To do this right you pretty much have to cut teh entire bottom of the dash up to the firewall.
But once you do get it in right, it just won't look right IMO. I'm not a purist in any sense of the word, but I'm a design freak. An oval dash just won't look right in your bug. Would be like putting a Model A dash in a Ford Escort, any way you put it it just won't look correct...
Here's my dash I made. There's other better ways if you want a custom dash to give you ideas...
