I'm in the process of having my vent window frames chrome plated. My frames have the short stem on frames like the ones below...
What is the correct way to remove the hardware from the stem without breaking anything? Getting chromed next week along with some other parts so your feedback is very much appreciated. I searched the forums but did not find answer... _________________ 2013 Jetta

The vent wing frame simply slides into the pivot assembly. There is a slot & tab for alignment purposes, but the vent wing stem & the pivot assembly are NOT connected by any hardware _________________ 1947 Typ 11a

There's what looks like a fibre washer in there too, I don't know how it would like the heat, and probably isn't easy to find a replacement. I soaked mine in PB blaster for a few days and wire brushed the threads where they were visible. Broke one of four.... |

If you undo the nut, the bracket, spring, washers all come loose and you can remove the window like the later models...
The "stuck" part is the tongue and groove connection between the two shafts |

The collar surrounding the connection of the two shafts is too large to fit through the hole in the door. That's why it has to be separated while still in place. _________________

Ah, didn't think about that. I had to combine the proper bottom part with late model wings for my 54(welded the two shafts together after cutting the access of the late model) so I didn't have that problem. Mine slide in and out |
