Just got my winter tires put on my car and tire shop says I need new brakes because I have around 1mm left on my right front tire. I'm in university and don't have all that much money, where do I even look for brakes for my car and how much should I budget for on this?

Thanks,Trevor

What year/model is your car? You can probably get the parts from your local parts store for $75 for pads & rotors.
If you have a 81-84 rabbit, get pads & rotors for a 83/4 GTI, you'll get vented rotors for better braking performance.

Mine is a 1980 VW Rabbit. The report says my front left pad/shoe is at 1mm and my front right pad/shoe is at 3mm. Why is one wearing more then the other?

...one piston slightly sticking causing drag, one rotor rougher than the other ??
nothing to worry about as long as it stops straight and one side is not overheating.

If really on a tight budget go to ebay buy new pads for $10 delivered, put them on and drive it.
