Hello all, I have a swing axle buggy with custom tubular frame horns welded on the vw pan..

I went offroading this weekend and didn't run rear shocks because one was missing and now the camber looks to be pretty negative.

It was a great offroading trip, except the ride was very bumpy.

so my question is, do i need to run rear shocks? if so then what type.

I assume that rear shocks are necessary but the spring plates already provide a good shock already.

Do you have pictures?
What kind of suspension stops do you have?
The spring plate is attached to a torsion bar which is the rear suspension, it not a shock absorber.
The shock controls the compression and rebound of the suspension.

You have to get some shocks. Without them it will pound the stops on the housing and the spring plates to death. Just some cheap oil shocks from autozone are descent for cheap, they are excellent front shocks, ok rears unless you tighten the bars. Good shocks for the rear will be the kyb gas adjust for a little more money.

If you want more ride heigth (better camber) the gabriel air shocks work pretty good on the rear. If you dont want to tighten the torsion bars.

Torsion bars and spring plates are DEFINITELY NOT shock absorbers. They are SPRINGS that will bounce. Run without shocks only if you want to join the pogo stick boyz. Laughing

The suspension should settle back into it's normal position by just a little manual bouncing in place.
