I had 3/16 of an inch of crankshaft end play. My dad and I came up with a fix to allow me to continue to drive the car while hopefully building a replacement engine.

Bracket mounts to the fuel pump, generator stand, and crankcase bolt.

Roller is adjustable and removable with one bolt for belt replacement.

I have driven the car a few hundred miles with no problems yet!

the loss of oil pressure from the worn out journals is more of a concern than the thrust movement.

damage is already done. it's only a matter of time before rods start knocking..

Hope you can get another engine built soon.

Interesting solution. How do you keep the bearing lubed? Seems like it would burn up in a hurry with so source of lubrication.

It is a sealed bearing. Got about three hundred miles on the fix and all is well. Interesting benefit is that I don't have any more oil leaks. The engine was leaking oil at the main crankshaft seal.

With 3/16" of end play the main thrust bearing is already loose in the case, only a matter of time before it spins.

Or maybe it already has! But the case is almost surely toast by now. Driving further may ruin rods and crank... but maybe they are also ruined already? I shudder!

Probably only get 5000 more miles out of it. I'd drive it just to see.

It may not hold up long, and leak some oil, but that was a very unique approach to fixing a problem. Good job.

They'll probably just do it as a warranty repair. Sad

400 miles and still counting. The crankshaft main seal has always had a small oil leak. Just enough to keep the bottom of the engine wet and drip when parked. The seal has stopped leaking and the engine has more power. The crankshaft moving fore and aft was retarding the timing and causing a power loss. Once we fixed the end play, with the roller bearing, it allowed the timing to be stable.

Here is a picture of me tearing down the replacement engine which I hope to have rebuilt and installed in the next few weeks.

So who's going to start manufacturing these? One model for ones with a second pulley like yours, and one for stock !!!

We removed the engine and started teardown. Will post pictures of old engine once the cylinders are removed. We plan to use the cylinders and pistons on the new build. Here is a picture of the car being backed into the shop for engine removal.

Just out of curiosity, where did you indicate the 3/16" float?
