Hi Everyone
I'm new to VW's been a Land Rover man for a long time and wanted a project for my son and I to rebuild and have some fun with.
So I bought a 1500cc dune buggy currently stock standard and is in need of a bit of a tidy up.
I'm having trouble with the clutch the car starts no problem but as soon as the clutch pedal is pressed the engine stalls and you can feel the friction getting harder as you press the pedal, the previous owner said the clutch cable needed adjusting and recommended changing over to a hydraulic pedal and slave cylinder but I think it is more sinister.
When stationary the buggy won't roll as the transmission seams to have locked the rear wheels which is weird as it will start so obviously not engaged with the engine.
Any ideas would be muchly appreciated
Thanks

When letting crutch out and it stalls engine doe not sound like a clutch cable issue, and hte is no need to go hydraulic clutch, 10's of thousands of buggies still use cable, usually going to hydraulic is builders choice ....
Could be several things... Brake shoes could be rusted to drums... or actual problem in side transaxle....

Thanks Dale, I'll try over the weekend to pull the brakes apart and see what's going on, one of the rear drums is leaking brake fluid so needs attention and I might just pull the motor out as well and see if anything obvious is wrong with the clutch.
As its weird that I'm getting a really loud friction noise when pushing the clutch pedal in |
