Wondering if I have to install the short axles in my 67 transmission so it fits in my 65 chassis. Anybody know for sure? Thanks in advance.... |

If your 67 trans is built already all the way to the drums, yes it will work. |

It will fit your chassis fine. You will need to make new hard lines from the end of the hose to the drum unless you get them with the '67 transaxle (the fluid flex hoses are the same.) You will need to replace e-brake cables too, because the cable flex housings will not be long enough to reach to the brakes.
I thought that would be an easy answer but VW used a lot of different e-brake cables:
'58-'65 uses a 1752mm cable
'66-'67 uses a 1789mm cable (I think you need these. Why would a '66?)
'68-up swingaxle uses a 1783mm cable
'69-'72 IRS uses a 1814mm cable
'73-'79 IRS uses a 1759mm cable
(numbers from Wolfsburg West)
A lot of part swapping goes on with old Bugs. Are they any gurus that can shed some light on which cables would be appropriate for different kinds of transaxle swaps? I will need some new cables in my '64 with a '67 transaxle pretty soon and I cannot find a part number on the current ones. I think the answer for Dougsvws will apply to me. How about people doing IRS conversions? _________________
