Need some help with my 67 beetle. The engine is out and on jack stands while I am getting ready to do a brake job on the rear and I noticed something strange. I can turn the axle on the left easly with my hand, when I do the main shaft on the transmission also turns. When I turn the main shaft on the transmission, the left axle shaft turns. The problem is the axle shaft on the right is stuck, can't turn it by hand or with putting the brake drum back on. It also does not turn when I turn the main shaft on the transmission. What is the problem? I bought the car about two years ago and just hooked one of those VW tow bars to it and brought it home. So I know the axle had to turn then. Can anyone help?

I see that you have been a member since 2010. Is that the year that you dragged your car home? Has the car been sitting for five years?
If so, it is possible that the wheel bearing has froze. You could try putting the tire back on the drum for better leverage.
Try to remove the offending bearing and see if that frees up the stuck axle.
Good luck.

Finally found time to get back out to the shop this weekend and give your suggestion a try. Yes, it worked, just wiggled it back and forth for awhile and it broke loose. Looks like new wheel bearing are in order. Your correct, the beetle has been sitting in the shop since 2010, time seems to get away from me. But I am back on track and plan to have the old girl on the street by spring. Appreciate your help.
