looks like a nice car. It does have a lot of incorrect things on it though. One weird one is that his has a 40's open generator backing plate. Usually cars have incorrect later parts. Not the other way around. _________________ Chris

What's with the wheel color also? Is that correct for a Jupiter Grey std? _________________ John Henry

looks to be a car that was meant to be more of a driver based on some of the obviously incorrect details such as the paint on the hubcaps and wheels. That is not a paint scheme that someone would have thought was original.
One thing I notice is that it has sealed beam headlights with fluted lenses so that is a pretty big ticket item that is incorrect. _________________ Chris

It looks like a microfiber couch to me |
They kind of look like they should have a handle on the side for the foot rest to pop out from the front.
Most of the stuff that is wrong on this car would be fairly easy to correct if you got it for the right price to offset the cost of what needs to be corrected if you are going for original. _________________ Chris

I agree on the upholstery too. I think as pictured it is maybe a $20k split. _________________ John Henry

Ha ha ha...Flashback to my parents' basement! (though without handle + footrest)
Yikes...you don't wanna know what happened there.
Got it bookmarked. |

I like the radio in that car.
And I like it when a car has a comfy back seat
But it has a few incorrect parts here and there indeed.
Let's see what it will go for at auction! _________________ drive it like you just robbed the bank

I doubt if the folks that attend these type of auctions care about details that have been mentioned. _________________ Mike B. |

They really don't. Most have more money than brains. Barrett Jackson, for their televised auctions, gets 8% EACH from the buyer and seller. I saw a $12k '54 sell for $55k on BJs a few years back. _________________ John Henry

Yes indeed; it's all in the presentation and showmanship. (+ cultivating the requisite crop of bidders)...of course, being in Scottsdale plus on TV doesn't hurt that aspect.
Caveat Emptor.
Oh yeah, and about the radio - any input on that? |

Thanks Kevin, that shamrock badge is pretty cool: [i]http://www.rmsothebys.com/az16/arizona/lots/1952-volkswagen-type-1-beetle-split-window-standard-sedan/1078449
I hope this unique car goes to a dedicated, enthusiastic home; as it deserves no less.
(despite its flaws, an excellent restoration base being largely complete)
and certainly did not intend or imply any disrespect by elucidating details, nor anything "petty" there by any means...just have to see how the dice roll. |
