way too old for a 924. this is 60s stuff, i have sat in quite a few 60s cars, and i don't recognize it. tried to find it online, but nothing so far _________________ regards

that's a mechanical tach right? that and it only reading to 5500 rpm makes me think it's from the 50s |

The cable for the heat gauge looks to be quite long.
So a rear engine car?
The screw terminals on the lights are quite in a 50s style as well.
Shouldn´t there be some dates on the tacho and speedo housings? _________________ Master of my domain! |

That's a water temp gauge. Most likely for for Studebaker-Porsche Type 542 with rear mounted V6 engine. Looks like that gauge head would fit in the dash.

it does look a lot like it would fit there! I'd say the gauge says "OEL ºC", so it could be the air-cooled version |

So how rare is the type 542? _________________ Chris

Dho! I meant to type oil temp after I did the F* to C* conversion. Of course, the range for water would be lower. More info here:

AFIK, none exist today. _________________ Jack Staggs

The dash opening is too rounded at the top to accept this gauge package.
Another reason it can't be for the Stude prototype is that those gauges are metric. Porsche would never be so stupid as to build a prototype for an American car co without using MPH and ºF. _________________

Minor dash shape changes are commonplace on prototypes, and these cars were tested in Europe before delivery to the US. That may explain why there exist "metric" gauges that were left over after conversion. _________________ Jack Staggs

For only 4 prototypes and an American customer, they would have NEVER wasted their time making metric gauges. _________________

Perhaps, but TUV laws are very strict. As an example, tourist delivery 356's destined for US were required to have German heater systems, as opposed to the US style, as early as 1962 before they could be driven on German roads.
Can you offer another application for these odd gauges? _________________ Jack Staggs

Again, for an American prototype, they would not concern themselves with TuV regulations. _________________

Do you have any documentation to back that up? If not, then it is just your opinion.
I think it is very likely that they would have to have met TuV regulations if they were going to be driven on any public roads and they would have tested them extensively before sending them to the states. I have no documentation to back that up either so it is just my opinion. _________________ Chris
