There are quite a few differences between your 74 trans and earlier ones, such that I don't recommend trying to install an earlier trans. Best is to get yours rebuilt.
What's wrong with yours?

Joe in Maryland does good work, I've been to his shop, purchased parts and he's done good case machining for guys in one of our local clubs (VA Aircooled Hooligans).
