My car is a 73 super beetle. I am having a problem with the car staying in 2nd gear when I take my hand off the shifter or if I simply let off the gas. If I keep my hand on the shifter the car stays in gear.

2nd gear is the only issue.

I have refurbished all areas of this car except the transmission. I am using a mamba shifter and have replaced the transmission mounts and shift rod bushings.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what I may look at to correct this issue?

Did it do it with the stock shifter too?
