Ive got an 87 tin top that beeds new doors. Im a hot sweaty guy and im lazy so i need power windows and locks.
Ive noticed there is a difference between late model passenger doors pre-1986 and post- 86 doors. According to the bentley pre-86 didnt have power windows. Id like to fit power mirrors, winows and locks. Anyone tried to retrofit these accessories to the pre-86 doors?
Here is the pre-86 info.
And the later model info. Sorry about the rotated photos. Not sure how to fix them in the samba.

The lack of the hole for the wiring harness to pass through the stock location is often a stumbling block for people with early model doors. |

I saw that and cut a new opening. Not pretty but will do. I see an indent near the big opening where the window crank cable can be seen. _________________ VW LT40 build. Like a Vanagon but 30% larger in every direction and 40% slower even in metric.

I found this out the hard way when replacing a front door on my 87. The door was supposedly from an 86 and did not have a hole for running any wiring into the door. Of course I found that out after I had installed it It would be nearly impossible to drill the hole in the factory spot on an early door that allows you to use the factory rubber boot that the wires run through. _________________ www.outwesty.com Vanagon / Syncro Repair in Tahoe City, CA |

The stock power window mounts are not on the early model door. You can see the difference in the pictures above. |
