Go go GI Joe!
Maybe I missed it but what does RPU stand for?

That pan will stand up on its side with the two wheels on it. That's how I worked on mine. Stripped down that far it's not to bad weight wise.

Cool to see you can still find some vw deals out there and that the rest of the family is willing to help Very Happy

Keep up the good work.

I know it'll stand up on the two wheels, unfortunately I don't have the strength to get it into that position, and my tractor is down right now so no front end lift assist... We were attempting to get it stood up on its side, and got this far and called it good.. It'd be nice to have it on the side strapped to the trailer for mobility convenience... We may try again, when the tractor hydraulics are working again.

Oh, RPU= Roadster Pick Up..... Wink

My next step will be building a stand for the body to sit on, yet allow the pan to roll underneath... I'm sure there are plans, or at least a thread on here about that, just haven't looked for it yet....

Joe

couple pics of my old stand from Thing construction. little overkill as was done with materials lying around. 4x6 uprights, 2x6 on remainder of framing. I was able to store the rolling pan underneath. could be shorter design in height for rod.

No real action on the RPU, aside from priming the pan, and seam sealing where the PO replaced pans but didn't seal..... hoping to get the Master Series on this week, then store it until our funds settle down... being out of work, still having medical issues, surgery, etc, is putting a damper on fun funds....😔

Thank you for the pics Zig... I have plenty of material lying around, I need to get a stand whipped up!

Whoa! Almost 3 months since last progress.... yeah, it's been a tough time 'round here....
Anyway, I got the first coat of Master Series on the top side of the pan yesterday! It was a bit humid out(and 70*), so the paint started setting up quick, and didn't flow as well as I'd liked, but as a base coat it'll do! I think I'm gonna do the whole thing in this paint, I just Love the raw metal appearance!

Next is pull the beam and get the bottom side coated, then the brace and extender painted and installed! Hope these 60*+ days hang on for a while! It's great for progress!

Happy New Year y'all!

Looking good. amazing how time flies on projects.

still have thoughts of one day doing a Rat Rod. in the mean time got side tracked helping my son who recently finished school and living back home helping in the family business.

here's his project. we decided to make life easier and built a rotisserie stand.

Porsche 914. I know, not a "true" VW. but several parts stamped "VW"

Small update...
Got the extender installed, the bottom of pan bed lined, and moved it out of the shop. Hope to set the body on this week.
