The tube through which the accelerator cable passes thru shroud used the top hole as shown on the photo. Was/is the second hole below the tube for a different motor or carb set up? Can I just weld a small patch over the second hole? i.e. much is said about trying to plug any holes where cooling air can leak out.

Also, Awesome Powdercoat (http://www.awesomepowdercoat.com/Venturi_Ring.html) sells a venturi ring which one can add to the old style shroud which I have. I am converting to 1300 to 1600sp. Would there be much benefit to adding the venturi ring for my application?
And yes, I know many will advise to remove the fuel filter from the engine bay.

Thks,
Dwight

Plug wire holder goes in lower hole. The venturi ring is a simple install. I just put a doghouse and venturi on my 67 sp 1600. Amazing improvement in cooling! Make sure you have a good tstat.

How is the verturi helping with a doghouse FS when you can only draw so much cooling air through the rear window intake vent? I recently had a heat issue on a road trip and the only way to get the oil temps down was to prop open the deck lid with a smashed pop can under the latch.
Just curious.
Have a great weekend.

In the pictures shown in the first post the clamps for the intake boots are shown facing up, screws on top. This is wrong, VW installed the screws facing down as shown in second and third photo. The reason they are installed facing down? So as to not create a chafing hazard, they will rub on fuel line, plug wires even the wire coming off the condenser. Don't feel bad eight out of ten people get this wrong, but if you look at manual photos or even the dealer brochures you'll see clamps with hardware always facing down and out of the way. This is similar to the generator strap which more often than not gets installed facing up as well instead of as VW did when they built the engine. I'm old enough just barely to have worked on untouched original VW engines. It takes no more time or difficulty to install as VW did.
