|
|
I have what might be a really obvious question but in searching, can't find the answer.
I have the fiberglass kick panels for my bug speakers. Bought from glass action. How do I actually affix them to the car? Screws? Rivets? Glue? Any particular locations I should avoid if it involves making holes?
I'm going to put carpet over them, if it matters. _________________ 1963 Beetle euro spec "Darrel" (since 2012)

I used screws. A little fiberglas around the edges to seal it and carpet over the housings. Nothing behind the steel panel that will cause trouble. I made as few holes as possible and sealed them with a little silicone sealer on the screw thread. |

use the 3M spray contact cement for the carpet ; works great |
I bought the DAP weldwood professional contact cement. I had read good reviews so hopefully a quality product as well! I used it on my closed cell foam and am happy with it so far... for the whole 3 days it's been on, haha.
I have used 3M in the past and not had problems with that either. _________________ 1963 Beetle euro spec "Darrel" (since 2012)

I covered mine with foam padding then used a few sheet metal screws on each side. Then I covered them with the carpet. _________________ http://das-auto-66vw.tumblr.com/ |

So, the screws won't protrude into the fender well on the exterior? _________________ 1963 Beetle euro spec "Darrel" (since 2012)

What length screws are best with carpet-covered fiberglass kickpanels placed on top of the existing carpet?
Are 1" screws too long? _________________ Rick
