I'm fairly certain that your car is a 1974, not a 1954. |

It's definitely confused, windshield looks correct for an oval, rear apron shows that it was for an earlier deck lid, louvers under rear window look modified to fit rear window because later cars have more louvers.
Hood is earlier than a '74.
No external fuel door.
Late model doors.
Rear crescent vents don't appear to be in correct location for a '74.
And what did that rear bumper come from? Bus maybe?
Obviously the brake drums have been changed if not the entire pan.
I don't know what level of restoration you plan but GOOD LUCK! _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

You sure about that now?
If it was a '54 someone went to great lengths to make it into a late model beetle. |

... back in '95, there was a 1957 oval for sale with 36 horse engine, in the local paper for $100. I went to look and saw his '70, but no oval.... turned out to be a 1957 pan and engine with a '70 body. Bought it anyway... scrapped the body, sold the pan and still have the sweet 36.
What's your pan VIN? _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

Looks like only the roof and windshield of the 54 is there. Would be easier to get a different car. |

691157 is a January 1954 pan... that car has gone through some metamorphosis... could be fun to make it look more like a '54 again...
Are old VWs sort of rare in Egypt?
I'm sure most of us will help with advice, when we can. I would not want to discourage you from proceeding, as you wish... having fun is all that's important. _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

This Beetle reminds of a movie I've seen. "The Beetle". Filmed in Israel I think. Hebrew, w/English subtitles. Buddy tries to restore his Beetle before his wife gives birth. He finds the previous owners, including a girl who was actually born in the Beetle on the way to the hospital. Great little documentary.

I still have it on my PVR. _________________ sent from a phone using poor grammar and spelling |

By seeing the some of the hackery on this car over the ages? It's going to be difficult... but not impossible...
Birth certificate would be the best way... But I imagine it's original tag up front is likely missing (or replaced from what I can see) unless the original tag is hididing what look like a brake fluuid resovoir? ...If the original tag is there your in luck if not... ummm, well... Time to be a detective then...
Again there is ALOT of modification work on this car! so it's going to boil down and hunting for a spot that hasn't gotten painted over in it's life...
...Pull a door panel and look inside the door...
...Look up inside under the dash under the hood cowl. (grab a flashlight, mirror)...
...Front exterior firewall and/or Rear firewall
...If any of the gaskets are original or never replaced maybe you could peel it back a little maybe... will probably crack though
...Unbolt one of the hood hinges and maybe they didn't remove the hood when they painted it possibly and may be some spots hidden behind the hinges still on the hood...
Or when stripping paint? ... feather a section until you can reveal all of the paint layers and see whats showing above the first coats of original primer...
Lot's of places to search really...
And looking at the underside hood in the pic, if thats it's original hood... I see some black paint maybe? I'm just guessing... _________________ ::: Slowoval ::: LaDawri Sebring ::: '61 Creampuff ::: Dust Storm '66 :::

... great pictures. I love the one of the front view, under the front hood... a ''54 for sure. What a great car... am always amazed with the concepts, we come up with. I'd speculate, that maker was serious and was desperate to have a functional car... bet there is a great story to go along with it...
I am not a fan of 70s super beetle bugs, but I make an exception for this ONE. _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD
