Will a 12v horn diaphragm swapped to a 6v horn give the same sound?

6volt /12 volt diaphragm are the same. The frequency of oscillations (sound?) is determined by the weight of the blocks. Compare the thickness of the donor horn and the repaired horn to make sure those blocks are the same.

refurbishment is well described in this thread...

you can consider adding your questions to that thread if you like.

Good luck

Getting back to this, does anyone have thickness measurements for a high tone horn?
I have two low tone horns that are available and want to grind one down to get a high tone. It only cost me $10.
If not I can get a new $30 high tone- but want to try this first, just for fun.

Had some time to play around with parts from a 12v high tone horn I located and I found out that the rectangular part of the armature is 5.5mm thick for the high tone, 5mm thick for the low tone. It makes sense, as the thinner bar has to travel farther, so it has less cycles per second.

Replacing the low tone horn bar only with the thicker piece gave me high tone horn I need!

The 12v horns I found have laminated bars, but it works in the 6v horn. I had a guy from work fabricate a piece from bar stock to match and it works just as good.

It ain't rocket science, just electo-mechanical common sense.

The hard part was finding a high tone horn to work from.
