I am looking to buy a 1972 beetle. It has red generator light on and the generator is not charging the battery. Owner says that the recently installed the new generator and he may have done something wrong with the wiring. Can anyone guide as to how to check this light issue or wiring issue on it?

Thanks so much.

http://www.vw-resource.com/generator.html

Start with checking the battery. And don't forget to polarize the generator.

The wiring for the generator is pretty simple, make sure it lines up with your diagram:

Don't fix it for him but factor it into your negotiations - easy enough to fix once you get the car. But factor in that, worst case, you may have to purchase a new generator and/or voltage regulator to correct the problem.
