|

So I replaced the 9 pin relay and turn signal switch and repaired alot of hacked wiring. The end result is the passenger front turn signal doesn't work. Jump power to "vr" black/green wire and the bulb lights up. And intermittently all signals go out. Mess with turn signal harness and they work again. The only turn signal switch I could find for a 68 was from cip. Seems like a cheap switch. Is there a switch from a different year or maybe use a universal switch. I don't care about keeping it original. I just want simple and reliable. I see empi's universal switch works with a single taillight bulb setup. Any input is appreciated! ! |

EMPI, CIP, sadly all the same crap, there's only one repro switch and the reviews aren't good.
Start by looking at the plastic part of the switch where all the wires are soldered on, any of them loose or funny looking?
Where did you get the relay? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Wolfsburg west relay...I'm gonna take the switch apart tommorow but I think I might go with a universal switch from a local truck shop. At this point...I need to put this together and have reliability |

How bad off was your old OG switch?
There's more than one way to make this work, maybe some pics of what you have would be a good start.
My first step would be testing that new switch, unplug everything and run a jumper to 54bl (black/green/white), then test HL, VL, HR & VR for power when the arm is in the appropriate position (L or R), then disconnect 54bl and move the jumper to 54st and retest HL & HR, they should both be live when the switch is centered and dead when moved to the wire you are testing, the other should remain live. Wiggle the wires to it during each probe to see if anything blinks.
Please report back how that goes so we can rule it out or throw it under the bus so to speak, those WW relays are usually pretty good but lets deal with one component at a time. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Thanks busdaddy, I appreciate your input...I'll report back tommorow. The og switch is shot. Previous owner cut wires and hacked some solder on it |

If your OG switch is mechanically OK, the hacked wiring can be fixed with some work. Post pics. _________________ '71 panel, now with FI

Sometimes it would bind...I went the easiest route. I got a universal switch from a truck shop with a flasher. Easy installation and now reliable. Should have went this route from the beginning |
