Came up to Niagara Falls fromPittsburgh for JUNE Jitterbug show, staying in Buffalo, NY, car died in traffic friday nite coming back to hotel from dinner, Amherst cop, very nice, seen us and called a tow. Car was completely dead and steering was locked, would not turn at all. Tow guy said his shop knew a lot about old VW's, so we took it to his shop. Next day a guy named Howie had it diagnosed in 3 minutes, the starting switch at the ignition was cracked and it fried itself internally. Was able to get another switch from local NAPA, the lock tumbler was and is still toast, so we are starting with a screwdriver, will work till we get home. Anybody needs work done in Buffalo area, this business is "United Auto", 5139 Sheridan dr., Williamsville, NY. Howie is not the only one there who knows about our old cars. They charged me 20.00 for the switch, and don't worry about the tow. Awesome old school business ethics. |
