Anyone know what angle the bottom of the dash slopes upward at? Looking to make a cup holder that fits onto the ashtray mount, and want to bend the cup holder part to match the profile of the dash so the cups sit level when installed.

I'm at work and do not have the car handy at the moment to measure it.

Mine appears to be about 22 degrees to level, car sitting in the garage on level concrete. About 74 degrees to the face of the dash, measured with a cheap plastic gauge.

I changed the above figures, I re-read your question and realized I measured the wrong place. I have my GMRS radio mounted in place of my ashtray.

Just wanted to mention that Amazon sells a cup holder that fits in the ashtray slot. I saw it yesterday for $40, I believe....maybe a bit less.

I had "Bar-Buoys" in my '77 Rabbit way back when.
They were great. The gimbal mount meant no spills ever.
Here's a general photo from the gallery:

The whole thing can be removed and stashed away, leaving only the mounting plate attached.

Putting a cup holder in an off-road VWs is a great way to do a self service beverage toss up and all over.... I just accidentally said out loud, " a cup holder in a Thing." In another room, my wife laughed out loud without knowing what I was doing or thinking. Our Subaru has 6 factory cup holder. Lets Drive and Drink!!!! safety first folks....
