PostPosted: Fri Jul 08, 2016 10:18 am    Post subject: 52 Split beetle windows Reply with quote

Hi
My 52 Split beetle has windows like an oval with the quarter light. I was told that some 52 beetles came like that. My question is that I want to fit a one piece window, can I do this with the mechanism in place. Could someone put a picture up of the window mechanism fitted in a split door
Thank you in advance for your help
Dave

Sounds like you have a zwitter. What does your dash look like?

This? Early Split

Hi,
The dash is a split. I have the birth certificate. (Feb 52). Can I get conformation that the window set up I have is for a split as I too thought that the doors would be oval but have been assured that they are split
Thanks Dave

Let's make it easy.

No cars with this dash came from the factory with doors with vent wing windows

The doors on your car have been replaced with slightly newer items.

Would it be possible to post the difference between a split door & a oval door as my split has been modified with the back oval window & possibly the oval quarter light mods thank you

Post pictures of what you are working with.

Or, you can use the search in the gallery and find pics yourself.

I do not think someone goes through the struggle to add the quarter windows to the old split doors.
More probably the zwitter or early oval doors where changed into the car.
Easy mod compared to the rear window change.

How about posting a load of pics of several areas of your car?
People here can tell you what you have.

Buy some 1949- Sept '52 doors and install them. You'll save money by sourcing complete doors (doors, regulator & glass). Nothing is compatible with the Oct 1952-later doors you have now, except possibly the exterior handle, inner handle & winder.

As everyone else is stating, post pics of your door. No doubt you have Oct 1952-55 ribbed doors, possibly even 1956-later doors

As Rare-Air alludes to pre-Sept.'52 doors are manufactured different then later doors. Wouldn't the original color of the doors be a give away if they were swapped unless they found doors from the same color car?

Not if the whole car has been repainted at that point in time Smile

I'm thinking inside. Very few people paint the whole inside of the car and somewhere there should be original color showing.

The door in the picture is exactly the same type/shape as on my 52 with the quarter light type window fitted.

Right, so show a picture of it so we can see how the vent wing was fitted.

The radius on the raised area around the door panel is different from split to oval. The upper left hand corner in your picture would also show an unfinished weld not seen on the oval door.

That is an early oval window door (up to mid 1955).

This is a split door
