It's really sad when people just don't take care of a VW..
This buggy sat under a tree outside for almost 5 years....
Look at this steering wheel...
Years ago I bought a chrome steering shaft in hopes that i may use it and the time has come...
Here is the chrome steering shaft
Lets mock it up with the stock '64 rusted steering column and tube
I want to be able to use one these bearings from Empi and see how i can make it work and still keep the tube for my turn signal assembly
I only need about 10" of a tube for my setup...
Well I guess Imma' have to put this steering fiasco aside for now .. lets keep looking over at what we have to work with. _________________ My '64 Pan Meyers Manx Dune Buggy "Lady in Red"

Chrome Roll bar came off..
It was bolted to the body instead of the rear latitudinal frame for safety.
It's crazy but whoever put this buggy together was rushing or was just careless.. what a mess
These hideous seats have to go and they are on sale on Facebook and soon here on the samba
Very bad job at making seat rails.. or rather fixed stationary seat tracks .. no movement.
These Classic '82-'92 Trans AM wheels are up for sale and sold in less than a week on Ebay.. .. they are huge 16" x 8" and 10" wide.. sold on ebay for $400 plus shipping

Reading your build thread make me want to get back on my buggy build. |
I was looking over your buggy build. I want to replace my floor pans because since i am doing all that i am doing what was supposed to have an easy flip i might as well replace the floors..
My question is this... i was told that in order to put other floors there are some measurements that need to be made at an angle to get the pieces to fit.. huh ?
Would it be best to buy the Floor pan halves or just get the floor pan quarter pieces ( 4 total) ?
or these

Cool build.
You mentioned "easy flip" . Be careful how much $$$ you end up into it. The South East has a bunch of buggies for sale at the moment.
All the best with the rest of the build.

I used full floorpans and cut them in the rear area.
I welded the rear section in first, and made final cuts as I went along.
I made my welds in the curved areas of the rearward part of the pan to keep it clean in the footwell areas. |
And you were able to retain the stock seat tracks .. just what i need to do now is locate a set of low back seats lower portion so i can make my Huyndai Tiburon seats fit like the ones you see here on my bay window bus
These seats have a flat track built into them ...easy to install on my bay since the floor area under the seats is level horizontal whereas the bug floor pans are not but its ok.. I'll make it work

Well today was the day to take it apart until it began to rain..
So here is what i was able to get done today...
I went to WalMart last night and bought a gallon of Rust Oleum Truck Bed Liner .. a whopping 124 oz for only $43.95 which is a deal since it sells on ebay for $118.00
Time to remove the body off the pan so i can get to work on my buggy..
I have a video of the finished product but cant be seen since it is on Facebook
.. I will see if i can add it later...
The T-Handle shifter was in bad shape from the corrosion but i Wet Sanded it with 800 grit then 1,000 then finished off with 2000... now for the polish portion is to use a blue stick on the buffer... it was badly corroded.
Here is the finished product in Before and After

I like what you started with. That's what we call "mint condition" up here in Hellinois.

Coming along nicely. You won't want to flip it once it's done, lol. _________________ Manxter #122

I sent my heads to be rebuilt at VWAS Shop in Miami and for $98.00 this is what i got back...
there was some damage to one of the spark plug threads so an insert was used to repair the spark plug hole.
Here is a Before and After shot then subsequent pics of the heads.

I need some head work done - mind sharing the contact info for VWAS. Also was the $98 per head? Very nice work so far! |
