I picked up a trike and I know nothing about VWs, I am trying to find out about the engine. it is titled as a 1979 Stratus |

There is a serial number below the generator stand. It will tell you what the engine started life as. The problem is that you will know nothing about displacement, cam or anything useful until you tear it down and start measuring. There will be some casting numbers on the heads - but you need the valve covers off to see them. Same deal, are they stock? Who knows. Some pics may shed a little light, but not a whole lot.
