The Phoenix high for June, 2016 was 118 according to a weather search I did. This was one of the days of the Invasion.
It may have been hotter along the S. CA to AZ route though since you were in the open desert and didn't even go to Phoenix?
Sorry about getting off topic, I have sort of a pet peeve after seeing lots of people say weird stuff like "I was in Phoenix and it was 100F all night"
I looked up the lows once and that has never happened, there has never been a low of 100F+ in Phoenix. It's in the 80s right now. _________________ How to Post Photos

You're just trying to make Phoenix seem cooler than it really is.
I mean, it might be cool because you and 'pher live there, but that's as far as it goes. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Yeah, but the "low" has been 95F !!!
Everett - I lived in Phoenix full time from 1967 to 2016, now I spend most of summers near Prescott. I used to golf 100 times a year. I played tennis and tennis leagues. I played softball leagues. I coached for my kids baseball and club softball teams, sat all day Saturdays and Sundays during those tournaments. I NEVER said "no" when my kids asked to play catch or ride bikes even if it was 115F and 1pm, figured I could always cool off somehow later.
That said: I hate the heat there. I felt like a prisoner in the house half the year, and that felt even worse now that I'm retired. Local weathergals April Warnecke and Laura Thomas make hearing the "our 30 days of 110F or hotter so far" a tiny bit better, but not much. And 109F ain't any better ! Maybe people who never have to do anything real outside, and go from air-conditioned house to AC-vehicle to AC work or shopping "love the heat" but I don't - I get sweaty and smelly. I do my own yardwork, automotive work, and home repairs, that means outside. I've been waiting for fall to get working on my 1970 sedan, just too hot in garage to attempt that this time of year. I have an above-ground pool and that helps some, at least I can go outside using that.
Yes, I've seen current temperatures over 100F on the 10:15 news reports, and 95F at 5:30am. Prescott, Show Low, Payson have much more livable climates, for sure. Why do you think so many vacate Phoenix on weekends to drive to cooler climates? Ever experience the mad rush back on I-17 or 87 on Sunday afternoons, like been in a 6-hour back-up returning from Flagstaff on mountain highways built 2-lane for population 45 years ago and not expanded to keep pace with expanding population?
Most people just stay in Phoenix area because there are more jobs than in Prescott, Payson, Flagstaff, etc. And the people who retire in Sun City - I just do not "get" that !!! _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. All true, except I don't feel like I am stuck in my house for 6 months, maybe 3 months max.
This is very similar to being in a snowy / really cold area. _________________ How to Post Photos

You guys should try adding the humidity we have in here in Georgia. While we don't usually go above 100, the humidity makes it stifling outside.
It will make your face look like this |

Well, I've been to Alabama (Roll Tide!!) in midsummer and was at Lake Havasu July 4 weekend 1994 a couple days after it hit 128 degrees there. I'll take the dez heat any day--that southern humidity is insane. That said, the LA basin can hit 110+ degrees as well but only for a day or so. Grab a beer and jump in the pool. If you want to rent a decent sized house in a decent neighborhood that isn't 50 miles from LA, plan on $2000/month for starters. But enjoy the weather--and the crowded freeways. |

I'm sure this isn't news but in a lot of cases. Going east the cheaper it gets. The beach areas are crowded and housing is a big issue now. I see homeless camps set up along the Santa Ana riverbed now. It wasn't always like that. _________________ '62 Rag Top Bug

We had a report from a Phoenix resident who came to the Invasion who said the forecast for the day she left was 120. So it was not an actual measurement of 120 for that day, but a forecast.
I spent a lot of time on business in Tucson and learned to adjust my off-day routine to accommodate the summer heat. I didn't try to do anything outdoors from about 1 to about 4-5 pm. Maybe a nice siesta in the heat of the day, then work into the evening when it has cooled down. Don't fight it, work around it. Stuff got done. Just a different daily rhythm than coastal areas. |

Yeah, it could very well be 120F somewhere in Phoenix too. Spots are often higher.
Usually the reported highs are at the downtown airport, which seems to always be the highest. I know the record hgh is from that location.
I don't track it myself that closely but I have seen reports of super high temps. at the airport and it's never that hot at my house.... at least according to the online local temperature gauges around my area or when i had a temp. gauge out back.
Same thing here - we often do stuff really late at night - take the dogs for walks or chill in the pool once it cools down - it can get too hot to use during the day. _________________ How to Post Photos

Yes Seattle area. More specifically Bremerton. With my ideal area being Port Orchard. The fun part is we need to be there, and in a place, and have a job lined up by October 30th. This should be fun. _________________ 2015 VW Passat Wolfsburg Edition

Here's the story behind all this. My little sister is in the navy. Was stationed on a carrier. Had a kid and got shore duty in Chicago (Great Lakes) as an instructor. Well her shore duty is up and she has to do her last two years in the Navy on sea duty. She has nobody to watch her kid while she's out to sea. Soooo the wifey and I said we'd watch him. Thought she was going to be stationed in San Diego. Turns out she's going back on a carrier and will be stationed in Bremerton, WA.
So some might ask why we don't just keep my nephew with us here. Short answer is it'll be easier on her, and her wallet, if we move there. So when she is in port she doesn't have to deal with the hassle of flying/driving back and forth to see her kid. With us there she'll get to see him as soon as she's back and not waste time with travel on the occasions she only has a few days in port.
It's going to be a logistical nightmare on my end though as it will be me, my wife, two kids, and a dog. In a perfect world I'll pull my uhaul in to town with a waiting apartment/house and a waiting job before October 30th.
Years ago I moved from California to Texas and had everything lined up. Had a job waiting and I paid all my apartment fees/rent/deposit via certified mail. Rolled in to town, signed some papers, grabbed my keys, and went home. I was single and kid free then, but I hope this move goes as easily as that one did. _________________ 2015 VW Passat Wolfsburg Edition

Yeah we'll see haha. My nephew is 2, my daughter is 4, and my son is 9. My 9 year old kind of understands why we're doing it. The other two will just go with the flow. Only one I truly feel bad for is my son cause we'll have to pull him out of school and I know how much that sucks. But he's an outgoing kid and makes friends pretty quick. Hopefully it'll all work out _________________ 2015 VW Passat Wolfsburg Edition
