|
|
So I'm helping a friend put a 68 002 trans in his 72 Baja. Because he has turning brkes, he wanted it in the tunnel.
Bought the empi solid mount swap kit, and the dreaded aluminum shift adaptor. Had to cut out the mount hole to the frame horns, Miss punched!
So the trans is in, but we spent hours beating our heads against a wall trying to hook up the shift rod.
First question. Is this adaptor supposed to be straight, or drilled at an angle? Ours is at an angle.
And for some reason we lack about 1/4 inch of shift rod length it seems.
I've used the mounts 2-3 times before but it's my first adapter experience...
Any ideas???? |

I hate those adapters. They're a mickey mouse crappy concept.
I would MUCH rather work on getting the trans lower in the pan. Using a mid mount allows that. The mid mount is available over the counter. Or it could be made of 3/16 x 1.5" strap wrapped around the case at the front bearing carrier, with a clamp bolt and ears welded to the sides to mount it to the yokes. Or clamp around the yokes like an EMPI Type 1 mid-mount support strap.
Then connect the shift rod like normal. _________________ Richard
