Thanks, Patty B. I try.
Randall, nawp, '55s had a 324, the motor whose development as an OHV 303 in an act of internecine warfare aced the Caddy V8 back in '49. Cadillac Division was pretty sore about that.
My first vehicle was a '55 Chevy with an original 265, which compared to the Olds was a little piece of crap. It died well short of 100,000 while the Olds had over 180,000 but had a burned valve and 4 cracked pistons which caused the rebuild. The Chevy block was made of slovenly-engineered Gruyere cheese while the Olds was a high nickel alloy, incredibly hard- will kill boring bars.
The Olds I call Sweetiepie, Honeybunch, Best Car In The World and so forth.
It was cool enough in the shed last winter to build the 324 Rocket out there, but overall I prefer the kitchen as it is less windy and gritty, and frankly cleaner and nicer. |
