This is my 1964 dune buggy. It has been in our family since 1964. My grandpa was the original owner. Then my dad owned it. Then my uncle. Now me! Its got a 1200cc in it right now with a whopping 70 mph top speed with a good draft of wind lol. Then the other engine I got for it is a bored out 1600cc. I'm planning on swapping that engine in & throw some mods on it! Its got 54,xxx miles on it & its a 4 speed! The original color was a metallic purple. From what I'm told this is a Myers Minx fiberglass replica? What do you guys think??
When I first got it

Not a Manx...but something better.... A buggy with a great family story.
You can always go over to www.dunebuggyarchives.com and use the section to help identify what it is if you want. |

A MANX replica is not even close in dune buggy world... Maybe inspired by MANX design but there is so much different in your buggy than what a MANX is... NOT IN A BAD WAY THOUGH, your is unique as it may have been inspired by Bruce's MANX design but enough different the it is not really "just another copy"...
Its a good looking buggy of good design, great family history, enjoy it...

Any recommendations on what would be the best oil to use for this 1200cc? |

I use Penzoil 20w50. I do not run my buggies in the winter.

So unfortunately while in my storage unit where I was keeping this during winter I had some items fall & crack the windshield beyond repair... Does anyone happen to know what kind of car this windshield came off of? It is a 1964 so I'm assuming a 64' Beetle? Idk if anyone able to tell based off the pics. The windshield will be a piece of custom cut, flat safety glass. Take it out, the ut to a glass shop and have a new one cut. Be careful handling them. Because of their composition windshields will crack fairly easily |

Most likely it's just a piece of flat safety glass and any glass shop can cut you one.
Nice Buggy and it's so refreshing to see someone of the younger generation pick up the torch and carry it on but you being third generation is remarkable!
On thing you will find out very quickly is that oil choices here is a hot subject, causes much push and shove so read the thread dedicated to oil and make up your own mind or this thread will get shut own.
If the 1200 is running well, use it for the summer while you check out the bigger one thoroughly. It looks to be messed with which could be good, could be bad! |

Windshield glass has to be laminated safety glass. Pretty much any auto glass shop should be able to replace it for about $100 |

Thank you guys for the replies! Much appreciated Ill have to hit up my local shops around here. Unfortunately a lot of places are closed or closing up shop! But yea I thought out about selling it but quickly shut it down since there's so much history behind it. This a long with my Camaro will probably always be in my family! Will keep this post updated once I start to work on this. Will definitely have the other engine professionally looked at & have the clutch worked on _________________ 2001 Camaro Z28 H/C/I Nitrous (My race car)
