Looking for replacement windshield for 1974 Dasher. Top corners are squared. Already purchased one with part #FW337. It was too rounded at the top. Have been told actual part may be #FW279. Final option is to have fabricated and that involves shipping cracked windshield to Calif from Texas..
Any help appreciated!! |

The VW Passat (B1)/Dasher one of the few VW's that is almost as hard to find parts for as 411/412.
They did not make to many more than the 411/412....about 676,819 according to Wiki.
Those that survived int the junkyards did not stay long. It was a 50/50 thing from what I saw. Either certain parts went fast due local fans of the cars stripping it to preserve their cars....or within a few short months of no parts movement ...they were scrapped.
In fact...last Dasher I actually saw was years ago at Awesome Auto Salvage over off of Jefferson in Dallas.
By the way...post where you have found to get windshields fabbed please.
Oh....and this is a fun read on a Dasher for sale about a year ago. I always liked the Dasher.

Owning & enjoying '77 & '80 Rabbit diesels for several years, I bought a '79 Dasher diesel sedan in 1988. Wow... night & day difference between the A1 & B1 chassis. What a pleasure to drive; it was a bit slower accelerating than the Rabbits, but once at cruising speeds... so much more comfortable.
After having '79 totalled by meth-dysfunctional red-light runner in Chevy 3/4 ton, I bought an '80 Dasher diesel wagon, then '81 Dasher sedan. Wagon is definite favorite, due to even more versatile load space & a bit better Front-to-Rear weight distribution. Now a 5-speed & 1.6n.a., it's getting a 1.6L intercooled turbodiesel that will bump up fuel mileage above its current 54-55 mpg highway, as well as offer better torque/power levels for even greater use of the long-legged 0.60:1 5th gear. Sound's weird, but the large & very streamlined Thule 'Pod' seems not to diminish mileage at all, at least at 65-75mph cruising speeds.
With the right 'rear-end tent', the Dasher wagon might just be a great vehicle for short term 2-person camping excursions or long road trips with camping stops. Even at its current level of almost double the fuel mileage of the '68 Westfalia, it would be a strong contender for such use, especially since the Westy doesn't have A/C yet! _________________ Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

According to NAGS the 279/337 are one in the same. for any Dasher 2-4 dr and wagon.
Can you post a photo of the differences / Are they the same height and widths?
It's been years since I put a Glass in a Dasher put kind of remember that problem but think we were able to make it work.
