Did VW Cancel the 2 Door 2017 Model GTI? It's not available at vw.com and I'm being told that it's no longer available for order? |

Pricing announced in July shows a 2-door, but only in base trim level:
Perhaps vw.com is simply not completely up-to-date yet.
Regardless of how many doors, the new GTI is a blast to drive. _________________ ~Kamz

They exist - looked at one on Friday which a friend is buying. It was a 2017 GTI S 2 door. |

Maybe so, but I'll never buy a four door GTI.
They're killing the 2 door!

I bought a 4-door GTI. No packages. The car is very comfortable, quick, and enjoyable to drive.
For $600 to have 4-doors to toss in gear, or have rear passengers and not have to slide the seat forward, seems like a no brained to me. Driving you don't even really feel the rear of the vehicle, it "feels" like a coupe. Laying the seats down for storage, the car is very versatile. A major upgrade to my Honda Fit in college.
With the endless options of tuning, aftermarket parts, it's a very solid platform to build upon, if one wanted to dive into that realm.

FWIW, Volkswagen will also be killing off the 2-door Polo in hatch-loving Europe.
If dealers aren't selling a particular model, dealers are less apt to put them on their lots to begin with. I don't fault VW for the decision whatsoever... it was a business decision in the grand scheme of the automotive buying world.
Four doors are darn practical...

To me, and this is my opinion, but the 2-door GTI's look dated to me. The 2-door stance and layout just screams 1996 to me. Or ford escort/Honda civic xe.
Don't get me wrong muscles cars are true 2-door models, but not all models are muscle cars. Drivability and function is why I bought a GTI. The sporty-ness of it caused me to fall in love with it.

It's hard to buy something you can't get. I haven't seen a 2 door GTI at my dealership in year and they were never too interested in ordering them or locating one either. I wanted a two door Golf TDI and couldn't find one with a bag of gold when I was in the market.
Maybe they will finally bring a Sirocco to the US since they are killing off the 2 door GTI and cannibalizing the GTI sales was often cited as the reason they haven't brought us one since the 80's.
VW is killing off unprofitable cars in the wake of the TDI scandal. Sadly it is also killing off some of their best products. _________________ 71 LWB Manx style dunebuggy
