I'm looking for a few photos of an original Volkswagen of America bug bicycle rack. I would like to make a few.
Would anyone here in TheSamba land happen to have any? _________________ Save a tree eat a beaver |

Never seen one- and there are none even described in any VW dealer accessories brochure. Have a hint for us- years available, how it mounts? Is it a bumper mounted hoop or an erector set-looking thing? What do you know about a VW-marketed bike rack? _________________

Ive heard that one was offered. It is a hoop style that mounts to the bumper brackets. _________________ Save a tree eat a beaver |

I've got both the ones we describe- an old hoop and the erector set, but both are well inside the brackets. They have to be in order to cradle the average bicycle's top tube. I think you have a v-w-nicorn on your hands. _________________

Here's mine:
The original U-bolt clamping arrangement is replaced with sockets bracketed to the bumper. It has the original finish and a tan label on the right leg (visible just above the bumper and below the bike tire). I quote:

Maybe you could send them a letter.
Edit: Sorry, I'm flat on my back with bacteria colonizing my bronchae. If you have patience I can produce a measured sketch and some detail photos.
Since it apparently is a v-w-nicorn. |
