That looks like it had a hard life. It appears to of not gotten the top date in the black area. _________________ '67 Beetle L41

I can say with almost %100 certainty is the build date. |
Well, I'm gonna throw a big ol monkey wrench in your theory. I have a very early `66 Beetle (116000423). My birth certificate shows a build date of July 7, 1965.
What confuses me is that the window sticker shows a very low number D engine. I thought that D engines started with the 1966 model year. |

D engines are 1200s for 1966. They started when the '66 model year started. I don't see anything wrong about that window sticker if you have a '66 with an Engine that is from that model year. _________________ '67 Beetle L41

But the window sticker lists it as a 1965 Beetle and the serial number starts with 115. |

Well then I don't know. You said in the first post it's chassis number starts with 116. That means it's a '66. Maybe some one else knows. I don't. _________________ '67 Beetle L41

My point is that if my `66 was built on July 7th, then I don't think that the `65 Beetle that the window sticker belongs to was built on July 30th.
I was talking about the `65 window sticker when I brought up the point about the D engine. My `66 has the F (1300) engine. |

The birth certificate might be wrong. They aren't know for being %100 accurate all the time. The '65 was almost certainly made on July 30 according to the charts and since that was the day before production ended maybe it got one of the new 1300s. The engine number does have a lot of 0s. _________________ '67 Beetle L41

The engine number does have a lot of 0s. |
And starts with the letter D. I would love to know what the complete engine number is. |

I don't believe that the date on the birth certificate is wrong. Other than the dates, I know for a fact that all the other data on my certificate is 100% correct. I was even able to verify that the listed destination of Wuerzburg Germany is correct.
Some time ago I was searching through the Samba Gallery and came across another members post of the birth certificate for their very early `66 Bus which shows a build date of July 5th. Like my birth certificate, it shows a "left factory on" date of Aug. 2nd.
I have a theory that when progressive refinments lists Aug 2nd as the start of the `66 model year, they are using the "left factory on" date and not the "built on" date.

If you take progressive refinments literally, engine # D0 000 001 was installed in chassis # 116 000 001.
Progressive refinments page M-217. |

Well that's obviously wrong if that dealer sticker is correct. _________________ '67 Beetle L41

I’ve been slowly working on creating a window sticker for my Ghia. Here’s my efforts to date, not perfect by no means, but it’ll do for my purposes. I created the blank document first, then added the details so I can go back into it to make others for my other cars. Now that this one is done, I can also modify it to make it a 61-62 or a later one, by changing a few things around.
I didn’t want it to look too new, rather like somebody found it under the backseat when doing the restoration. There’s at least two “mistakes” in it, possibly more.

What method did you use to age the paper? _________________ -Harry

Water, tea, a glue stick and sock lint. _________________ Air does not freeze. Air does not boil.

I think it would be appropriate to have a note somewhere on the document stating that it is a replica or reproduction. |

I think the “Hyper-drive” gives it away. _________________ Air does not freeze. Air does not boil.
