Hello everybody, I was advised to repost in this section to see if anyone can help figure this out. I'm trying to figure out the history of this specific emblam.

First it has a tooth-like structure. And theres no divider for the v/w.
Where these made like this at one point with no divider? |

I think this question stumps the best of them, I've asked some friends who are I'd say knowledgeable and they couldn't figure it out either. I think how there's no line divide is most of the mystery but the tootth thing is weird too. |

Auto Manufacturers are very possessive about their parts ESPECIALLY their badging. If an aftermarket part is within something like 10% (I'm unsure of the exact percentage.) of being an exact copy then the auto manufacturer can sue the aftermarket company for copyright infringement (thus the reason the aftermarket parts don't fit very well.). Your badge is an aftermarket one & this is how they modified it to avoid litigation. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

Thanks for the response TDCTDI that's some good info to keep in mind. I think the oddest part of it is that there are quite a few people who believe the emblam has always been without the line. |
