Well back from rescuing the 53 beetle. The floors and channels are shot. I just want to thank the person who put those ugly seat covers on and protected that great original interior. From what I can tell its a April 1953 beetle and from what I read they started making the oval windows March 10 /53. The last time this car was on the road was 1969. It has the plates and I found the registration in the dash. After all that time all the lug nut came out no problem and all the wheels turned free. I pulled the rear drums and took off the shoes just incase as I used a tow bar to bring it home. Over 2 hours of pulling and no problems. The bus in the pics is a 1958. I will be getting that in the spring

It's amazing that the channelsame are toast, but the seats are in such good shape also why the field mice/rats didn't make a small rodent city in the time frame...I'm kinda digging the taillights...honestly their kinda cool

Not sure about the mice thing. I have to go pull all the covers off and inspect. They have been into the head liner though

hey tim.
nice score.
have to ask where did you find that one? and what are your plans with it? looks nice and complete... good for you...

is there a motor in it? turn over? etc. always curious

and how did you hear about it? looks like it was out in the bush with the poplars growing thru the front bumper...

Great story.

I love the picture with the tree trunks in the bumper. That would be so much fun to take to a car show!

There is an engine in it and it turns but not original I don't think. Not sure what the plans are yet and it was found about 2 hours from Edmonton through word of mouth. I saved 15 VW this summer within a 2 hour radius of Edmonton. I left the stumps in the bumper. If I get it back on the road it will stay patina with the stumps.

If I keep it. it will just get a good coat of wax and fix the rust and drive as is. I already have a lowered beetle, no need to have 2

When you reach the point where the car is solid again and truly back on the road, you can tell people "it came with 3 trunks". Shocked Wink

A oval window and a pressed bumper kombi, pretty awesome.

Congratulations Tim on this find.

Is this a Canadian bug? I thought they came with 3 spoke wheel?

My fault for the confusion. The Beetle is a de Luxe, not a Canada Custom (Which have three spoke wheel and less trim). By Canadian, I was referring to where it has lived the last six decades or so.

Hello Tim. First off great finds. I have rear quarter glass from my 54 if interested.
Any pictures of the car before the trees were cut to free the car.

Those last pics look familiar. Wink LOL
Tim, the glass is the same for the 1/4's from 53-63 in size, but the logos are different if you care about that. The windshields are the same for all ovals 53-57 as well.

Tim what is the original color of the car? Pastel green? Or a Canadian specific color?
