So, this isn't an off-road VW - but I figured you guys here are probably most likely to deal with this.
I'm pulling my trailiing arms. The left side came out like butter. The inner pivot bolt on the left side, though, is rusted to the bushing sleeve. I tried getting vice grips on the end of the bolt and knocking it out with a hammer but no luck - the vice grips can't grip tight enough.
My only idea would be to weld a piece of scrap on the end of the bolt, then use an air chisel to push the bolt out and break the rust. Any better ideas before I dive in?

Wooho - It worked! I'll need to get a new bolt now, but I was worried I'd need to spend all day trying to cut apart the bushing, or have to go in from the back side - through the frame horn.

I have, and used, both . The issue wasn't turning the bolt. Once the bolt was backed all the way out of the threads, I couldn't remove it any farther, since it was rusted solid to the bushing sleeve, and there wan't an easy way to get a grip on it and pull it all the way out. |
