|
|
Hi;
I'm just before reassembling my 1776i case (type1 mexican sedan 1600i), I'm cleaning the hydraulic tappets, but I found that some have the oil disk in different directions (single white arrow), also I can see that sockets flat surface were slightly corroded (double white arrow) ...
My questions are:
-those small oil disk, can go either position?
-the socket surface a little bit corroded affect the tappets or lifters operation?
-I can place any tappet in any position in the case?
-the adjusting process is zero lash point and clockwise 1-1.5 or 2 turns?
-some other recommendations?
Thank you and best regards... |

I would go 3/4 turn to 1 turn max on a std set up. or about 1/4 turn for a hp application where higher rpm may be seen. as for the lifters& dics Ive seen them both ways. but if there is rust I would just get a set. I think there the same as ford lifters.just check size. 874 is ford, 842 is gm,904 is mopar and nascar.....well some nascar uses 874 too. hemi I recall being 1". |

Thank for the info Mark........Before opening the case, the Hyd lifters worked very well, they are aparently in very good condition, just found some miniscule points on the socket flat side in 3 lifters, just where seat the small oil disc.... |

If I recall right thats the piddle valve it helps meeter oil through the pushrods up to the heads.there is another valve inthere too. and when it leeks you have a noisey valve train and usualy issues too. everything needs to be extreamly clean&lint free. |

Then the inside valve ball is very important for the charge or descharge tappet, or loaded properly, this added to the piston/walls tight tolerance make it work well and do not give noise problems ...... The oil disc is second valve system , but only helps to introduce oil for the pushrod straight to valve train.... Probably these small socket imperfections will not have much relevance in the tappet operation.
Really appreciate!! |
