I just added another beetle to the stable In addition to my 79 vert which is pretty much stock I just couldn't pass up this beauty...

I know that it was originally owned and a DD for 15 years by Dan Chavez out of Florida. Then according to Dan it when to Michigan. Then to the owner in MN before me. The owner before me claims he bought it from someone in Florida, but not Dan. There are some papers in the glove box that may tell the same story. That seems to be the point it was lowered.

Anyhow, it's a 64 with a 1776, dual kadrons and some other goodies. You can also see it is quite low.

What I am interested in is knowing a few things, like what timing should be (it's at 28 BTDC at 3k right now), valve clearances, oil quantity, if it uses a standard beetle filter (I didn't see a spin on conversion) and other maintenance items.

All I've done so far is cleaned the air filters as they were terrible and raised the idle up a bit to around 900rpm (it was much lower, almost to the point of stalling). And of course washed, waxed and detailed (the paint is gorgeous and seems to be holding up very well).

I also would love to know if with the current suspension I can raise it up some. It's neat, but border line "too low" for me. Especially with the camber of the rear wheels.

It will be most likely going to sleep for winter soon so there is no rush, but getting that info and especially finding the previous owners to pester with questions would be super duper. Smile

Thanks again.

Congratulations on the "new" Beetle . . . Looks really nice! Cool
I agree that it should be raised a little in the rear.
The front might have adjusters.
What size are the tires?

Timing . . . 28 degrees sounds a little conservative.

the paint on it is superb. I gave it a wash an wax with rejex and the dark maroon looked even better.
