Hi Gang,
We pulled the manual transmission out of the 2001 Golf 1.8T to replace the clutch.
While it was out we pressure washed the case in doing so the speedo drive came off.
Now with everything back together and on the road the speedo doesn't work.
My question is there a metal drive that spins the speedo sender?
When we were washing the tranny I think I saw something go flying out when the pressure knocked the speedo sender off.

We bought a new sender but haven't tried it yet
hunting on google I see the drive under the 22mm nut
we will dig deeper into it

Yep, you gotta be careful diving in, speedos come off quick.
