Hey everyone,

I am rebluiding the 36HP of my 56 convertible,
and I cannot find locally any shop that is able to line bore my 36HP.

I am from Quebec City and now looking to ship the block and crank to either someone in Canada or US.

So if someone has a good reference to communicate, please share.
Thanks in advance.

/Jerome

Hi There,

I had a similar question years ago. I'm in the Montreal area and I could not find anyone that I could trust here. I sent my heads for machining to ACE out in Colorado.

There is an aircooled guy in Laval, Frank, but he is very hard to get a hold of.

Looking forward to hearing others response.

IMHO, I would send it to the USA.

Good Luck

I might be wrong, but I believe Mr Okrasa can do it. He does 25 and 36 engine and split case transmission work. One day when I save up enough money I plan on sending him my 36hp engine so he can build it into a vintage speed motor. Check out his website and he also has some advertisements listed on here as well. Hope this helps http://www.okrasa.com/

Seems like Rick Herity in Edmonton has some experience with 36hp engine. He might perhaps be able to do a line bore, I am going to figure this out.

I also have a friend in Quebec who might be able to help me, so more to come...

Doesn't Mr. Motorhead line bore 36hp cases? I thought I had mine line bored by him. It was either him or Rimco that did my case, it's been so long I can barely remember...

Try Kevin at Einstein's Aircuuled in Washington, he has an old school boring bar and his work turns out real nice for a reasonable price. You will need main bearings so he can get the cut right on. He runs an ad here on the Samba:

Rick Herity in Edmonton does all mine. He'll shoot the bar thru the mains or he'll do it right and plane the case halves then bore the cam ,mains ,seal, pump etc.. It's a shit load of work to do it right. It's all the Matra reamer system. You get what you pay for

Thanks for the reply,
I just kickstarted a discussion with Rick to see which level of machining is needed for my engine.

I got in touch with Joe, I think we speak about the same person. When I talked to him and told me that he needed to complete his cuter set to be able to bore a 36hp case.

In the mean time I found somoene local here in Quebec City who is measuring my case and crankshaft. This will tell me if I really need to bore the case or not before sending it to someone remote. More to come...

If there are steps worn into the bearing saddle beside the flywheel, then you will need an align bore. Thats where they pound out on 36ers. Jim

Looks like you have scooters? I once owned a red and white NSU . It was old and had 2 seats on it. I think it was a 125. Shaft drive. Should have kept it.

Check with Daniel's Machine shop in Maine. He has the equipment and knows what he's doing.
