I just removed these craptastic "Autolite platinum " spark plugs from a customer's car.

#4 broke while trying to remove.

However, all four left their connectors in the ignition wires. I was not aware that this was a high stress connection (I have never seen this before, especially on all four spark plugs.).

I have never seen rusty spark plugs before, even ones that have been in motor for 100K miles. Does the owner rinse the motor with sea water?

At least they came out...

They were the only thing rusty in the engine bay, & the car only has 130,000 on it.

The rest of the engine bay is pretty decent otherwise.

I dare say that the original plugs would have been in better condition.

Accept that it's missing a dipstick.

With rust at the tip of the plug, I suspect there was water present before the plug wire was connected. I personally would not use Autolite plugs on a clients or my car unless I had no choice in the matter. Obviously it worked until it was due for a service.

Yes, I accept that the dipstick isn't where it should be, I remove them to take the engine over off, you can see it on top of the air box. Very Happy

I don't use Autolites, Champions, or any of the other crap plugs either, I posted these to show just how bad they were.

Stick with dealer or NGK.

VW does not make their spark plugs, so I would stay away from the dealership. There are way too many middle men that add to the final cost of the plug.

Stick with OEM [06H 905 601A]. NGK or Bosch is the preference for my customers. Cheap does not normally apply to spark plugs. Good ones will last 60-100k miles. Spend the money and save some time and aggravation.

always referred to autolites as "auto-seize"....those non-plated pos's would rust up and not come out of anything except an oil burning american bomb where the threads stayed covered in oil....they were particularly miserable in anything air cooled as the heat burnt off any lube....they always used to be the cheapest plug on the market...for good reason

NGK is the ones to buy, in my opinion.

I run two Ford tractors on Autolites! No problems.
