Hello All,
I recently picked up a 1957 ragtop car that is all original. I have looked the car over and was wondering where folks buy their metal from? This car needs pans, lower quarters, lower doors, and the panel from gas tank up to fuse panel area. Any input is appreciated!

Take my opinions for what you will and others may have great sources too but here are my picks.

So, depending on what part you need...

Floor pans: https://www.klassicfab.com/klassicfab/en/12-type-1-beetle

Well fitting quality panels. Stock may be an issue at times but I have always had great service.

Lower quarters: http://restorationpanels.com/product-category/oval/
Mostly pre 1955 stuff but some panels will work for later models too or he may have those as well. I have bought quite a few panels from him and all have been quality as well as great service.

Lower doors: this might be a samba item. The above makes lower doors for pre 55 ribbed. Not sure about post 55. You could find doors up to '64 and use the bottom couple inches off any of those.

Trunk panel: also prob a samba item. I have a parts car (a '57) that has a great one we could discuss. Honestly though it looks pretty time consuming to remove properly. PM me and we can talk.

One more great source for various metal: http://wolfparts.com/?product_cat=vw-type1.

Hope that helps. Also these are sources for quality "as close to original' panels. I know there are a lot of cheaper panels out there but in my opinion you get what you pay for. I like spending a little more on the part to get a better panel fit. Saving on labor to install correctly.

Thanks for taking the time with the info here! I managed to locate and secure two original trunk areas, both from a 56. I was hoping someone has used the WW 56-57 floor pans and can provide feedback. I seem to have gotten lucky and located original nice dry quarters also. I buy loads of kf parts for early type 2, fitment is hit or miss. I am also curious as to nice looking and fitting heater channels that are aftermarket.
