Hi everyone one!
It's taken me 30yrs but I just bought another bug. A 67, nice body off resto, new interior, new everything. One major difference though, it's running with a 1600 from a 71(?). It's had new bigger bore lungs and runs strong right now. The problem is, it's covered in oil. As I suspected, it's from the pulley due to the aftermarket air cleaner and oil vent that's been added. I decided I wanted to restore it to oil bath and bring back the pre heat as well. I have an air cleaner off a 68 I'd like to use because it has the look of the 67and , except for the cable run damper, functions similarly. I had to buy the whole kit to restore the thermostat control as that whole thing was missing from the shroud. Thankfully the thermostat and bracket were still there and tested ok. Anyway, my knowledge is limited to what I read and my own trials and errors. I'm hoping some of you guys have some advise, input. Do you think this idea is doable? Is there more involved that I'm not seeing here? I may at some point build a 67 engine but for now, I kinda like the way this runs. Just not all the oil!

Welcome!

Can you post some pictures of the bug and the engine compartment?

This is my 67. Don't have any shots of the engine right now. Just bought this in November, drove it a few days, then it went into winter storage. Ya,I know right! It was after a couple drives I noticed how much oil was accumulated in the engine compartment. The builder, from Pa. ,did a fine job on the body and chassis. Any ideas about restoring the oil bath and thermostat systems? Most people I've talked to have more ideas about getting rid of all that, not saving it.
