Nice work documenting deconstruction of the original top; that'll stand you in good stead when you install your new top |

What are some of the better tops made in your opinion?
From what I've read you want to use wooden bows, there's three of them I believe.
I'm not sure I can install a top. |

I've been very satisfied with the canvas top kit I bought from Chucks Convertible Parts.
Two wood bows: header and rear... the mid bow is part of the frame.
Judging from the photos you're posting you apparently have both patience and skill. |

Thank you guys. It's going to be a while before I can afford to do the top. Maybe I will try it, maybe.
There's still a long list of items needed. Tires, license and tags, insurance, so we can get it going down the road on sunny days.
Thinking about using Grundy insurance.
Welded in some pieces to fix the holes in the rear compartment. Got it primed.
Will paint it tomorrow. Still need to undercoat the pans too.
Will take pics tomorrow. |

If you haven't already, you should download the 1960 Karmann Ghia Shop Manual - Body Section - PDF from The Samba technical archives as it has a very detailed section at the end on how to replace the cabriolet top.
Additionally, there is also a seperate W Karmann Ghia Shop Manual - Ghia Top Assembly A83A - PDF document available for download as well.
Between the two, you should be able to get a clear enough picture of just exactly what that task will involve and whether or not you feel you may be up to trying it yourself. |

Installing Hushmat. It was easy to install and not very thick. Probably less than 1/8" thick. Works well on making things more quiet.

These original hinges are inoperable. I'll just make some out of stainless.

All 39 sq ft of Hushmat was installed on the floor and rear area. Installation was simple, peal and stick and roll with the roller. I didn't stick any down under the rear shelf, below the hinge area as it will be to hard to remove in the future.(next body off resto) I'll use some material that can be slid in and out when needed. The original piece of insulation was desintagrated and trashed.
Next will be license, tags, inspection, and insurance. Still leaning towards Grundy. Anybody here use Grundy insurance? I was quoted $235 per year since the Ghia won't be a daily driver. |

Is the insurance quote of $225 a year for an agreed upon value ? If not keep looking. _________________ ----------------------
