I am relatively new to the type 4 engine, lots of previous type 1 and 3 experience though. I have a couple of questions but a bit of background to the project first.
I have a Manx copy that came with a tired type 1 engine but I have a '74 bus engine sitting around collecting dust so would like to swap it in. It looks like a direct bolt up with a few plumbing/wiring changes.
However I have hear/read that the camshaft in these engines are not good from a durability and performance standpoint. Also parts seem quite pricy compared to the type 1 engines and much harder to come by.
The twin carbs that came on this engine are very dirty and have a lot of emissions related hoses and ports. Are these carbs worth the time to get working?
Am I making a mistake here in going to a type 4 engine?
